Ask Redfin Launches Nationwide, Helping House Hunters Get Quick Answers to Questions about For-Sale Homes

Angela Cherry Notes

The AI-powered tool is available to all Redfin iPhone app users across the U.S.

Since its beta launch on March 7, Ask Redfin has made house hunting a little easier—and now all people searching via the Redfin iPhone app in the U.S. will automatically see it on a home’s listing page.

Ask Redfin is our generative AI-powered virtual assistant that helps you easily find the information you care about within a home’s listing details, local market conditions, nearby amenities, touring availability and much more. It’s integrated with Redfin’s support team, so you can be quickly connected to a licensed real estate agent if your question goes beyond the details of a listing, such as how to make an offer or to get an agent’s opinion on the market value of a home.

Now that we’re about two months into its existence, we wanted to share how people are using Ask Redfin. Since its debut, our AI-assistant has helped homebuyers with all sorts of queries about for-sale homes. The majority (59%) of questions users pose to Ask Redfin are about the property they’re viewing. Everything from square footage (“what is the size of the lot for this house?”) to amenities and home features (“what type of heating system does the home use?”) to the home’s condition and renovations (“what year was the roof last replaced?”), to community details (“how much are the HOA fees?”), and beyond. Nearly 1 in 10 people who launch Ask Redfin do so to request service from a real estate agent, and a slightly smaller share (8%) request a home tour.

We’ve also found that Ask Redfin users are some of our most engaged customers: 93% of Ask Redfin users come back to the Redfin app within a week, and they use the app near-daily during that period. And it’s most popular with home searchers in Virginia, Boston and Chicago—three of our roughly one dozen beta launch markets.

In developing Ask Redfin, we created a detailed set of instructions so it would answer questions in line with fair housing guidelines. We’ve been closely monitoring Ask Redfin on this front, and it’s performing well. When asked a question that touches on a potential fair housing issue, Ask Redfin appropriately says that it can’t answer the question.

If you haven’t tried Ask Redfin yet, give it a whirl! To use Ask Redfin in the iPhone app, tap on the for-sale home you’re interested in viewing, then tap the speech bubble icon to the left of the “request showing” bar at the bottom of your screen. That will open a new chat, and you can start asking questions. You’ll need the latest version of the Redfin iPhone app to use Ask Redfin. To upgrade to the latest version, visit Apple’s App Store and tap “update” on the Redfin app. If you don’t already have our app, you can download it by visiting Apple’s App Store and tapping “get” on the Redfin app.
